This is Marco from Provectus Therapeutics, a biotech startup from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, aiming to develop innovative solutions to accelerate Precision Oncology Research & New Drug Development and tailor personalized treatment for all cancer patients by implementing Artificial Intelligence and Microfluidics Technology.
We are immensely honored to receive the ‘HKSTP Golden Technopreneur Award’ in YDC Dare To Change 2021–23. This award serves as a validation of our vision towards the future of personalized cancer treatment and motivates us to continue pushing boundaries and delivering innovative solutions in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry.

Hi, I’m Tony from Provectus Therapeutics. It has been a long journey from the start of this project to winning the HKSTPC Golden Technopreneur Award. It was unbelievable for us to be standing on the stage of the award ceremony to receive the honor that represents the amount of time and effort we’ve put into developing our own technology. Yet this is just merely the beginning of work that needs to be done to accomplish our ultimate goal: to help patients combat cancer with personalized treatment.
Started as a final year project for Marco, we’ve been putting a lot of effort and time into developing our technology. What we developed here is a method for conducting cell analysis at a single cell level and treatment response prediction utilizing AI-based algorithms. We hope our method can help other researchers by providing them with more insights into understanding the behavior and response of individual cells through a user-friendly cell analysis platform. Propel new drug developments by providing higher throughput in-vitro drug testing services on single cells. And ultimately, provide personalized treatment suggestions to individual cancer patients using single cell analysis and AI-based treatment suggestions.
Biomedical is a more complex field of study, it is often difficult for the audience to get a grasp on the problem we are trying to solve without going into the details. Participating in the YDC Dare To Change Challenge, however, gave us valuable experience in training ourselves to explain ideas to panels of judges from different backgrounds without too much of a technical jargon, yet still being able to convey our core idea and business plan. Through the YDC challenge, we’ve also been able to get in touch with coaches with years of experience in building successful startups, meet with investors with a wide network of connections, giving us useful insights and suggestions to guide our development.
In the end, winning the YDC award definitely opened many doors for us. We understand that it is only by having an open mindset to challenge, we can grasp an opportunity like this. Just like the title of the competition, only the ones who dare to change can make their way through every challenge to come.
